Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 – Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
Drive into the Virunga foothills near Volcanoes National Park, where cultivated slopes rise toward a chain of dramatic volcanoes.
Continue towards Musanze and the Volcanoes National Park area, with time to settle into your lodge and prepare for the following day’s gorilla trek. Depending on your arrival time, there may be an opportunity to explore the local area or enjoy views of the Virunga volcanoes. Your guide will brief you on the trekking arrangements, including the meeting time and what to carry for the forest.
Day 2 – Mountain Gorilla Trekking
After an early park briefing, trek into the bamboo and montane forest with rangers to find a habituated mountain gorilla family. Terrain and trekking time vary, making good footwear and a steady pace important.
Once you reach the gorilla family, the forest comes alive with unforgettable wildlife encounters and quiet observation. Watch how the gorillas feed, rest, groom and interact with one another while keeping the required distance and following the guidance of the park rangers. The experience is unhurried and intimate, with every trek offering its own unique encounter before you return from the forest.
Day 3 – Golden Monkey Tracking & Kigali
Track golden monkeys in the bamboo zone with park guides. Their quick movement, bright colouring and social behaviour make this a lively primate experience that pairs naturally with a gorilla trek.
After the tracking exercise, begin the drive journey back to Kigali. Along the way enjoy Rwanda’s beautiful hills and changing landscapes as you make your way down to the Capital.
