The Rwenzori mountains- the fabled “mountains of the moon” lies in western Uganda along the Congo border. Their equatorial snow peaks include the third highest point in Africa, while the lowest slopes are blanketed in moorland and rich montane forest. Huge tree heathers and colorful mosses are draped across the mountainside with giants lobelias and everlasting flowers”, creating an enchanting, fairytale scene.

The route climbs the rocky groundsel gully and steep scree slopes to scoot Elliot pass (4372m) for un forgettable view back down towards mount Speke and lake bujuku down the U shaped Bujuku valley. The climb finishes at Elena hut (4541m) below the snowline of mount Stanley.
