Wildlife Guides
A practical guide to the wildlife you may encounter on safari.
Wildlife changes with habitat
Mountain gorillas and chimpanzees live in forest ecosystems, while elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes and predators are associated with savannah parks. Wetlands and rivers add hippos, crocodiles and specialised birds. Birdlife runs through every habitat and can become a major part of the trip even on a general safari.
Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed
Wild animals move freely and conditions change from day to day. Skilled guides read tracks, calls, fresh signs and information from the field, but the most rewarding safaris keep realistic expectations and appreciate the full ecosystem.
