A different way to watch wildlife
After hours in a safari vehicle, a boat cruise changes both pace and perspective. Hippos, crocodiles, waterbirds and animals approaching the water can be easier to watch from a stable position.
Photography can be excellent
Low viewing angles, reflections and open sightlines make boat trips useful for photography, especially when light is softer. A zoom lens is helpful, but even a phone can capture strong landscape moments.
Pair it with a game drive
The best programmes use both. A land-based drive searches open country and woodland, while the boat reveals the life concentrated around the water.
